About me:

I founded the charity Pregnant Then Screwed almost a decade ago following my own experience of pregnancy discrimination. The charity started out as a web page, documenting the real stories of women who had experienced horrific discrimination at the hands of an employer, and it has grown to become one of the UKs leading charities with an annual turnover of £800k, a membership of 4,500, a community of over 400k, 80 volunteers and a team of 12 staff. In 2023 the charity was mentioned in Parliament 29 times and we secured 2,870 items of press and media coverage. The charity has won a number of high profile awards, including: ‘’Small Charity of the Year’’ at the Third Sector Awards 2023 and PR Week’s ‘’Best Social Purpose Campaign’’ award.

I am politically astute with significant experience of effectively influencing legislative change. Due to our campaigning on childcare investment, we were credited with influencing the £5.1 billion investment in childcare in March 2023, securing praise from the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Secretary of State for Education, and the DfE for making this a Government priority. We also influenced new redundancy protection and flexible working laws which came into force in April 2024. More recently we have been working with ministers and civil servants on the employment bill, influencing new flexible working laws and parental leave reform. During the pandemic we successfully campaigned for: Childcare bubbles, excluding under 5s from the rule of 2, a grant for low-income parents who were forced to stay at home should their child contract Covid, pregnant women to be prioritised for the vaccine, and a change to NHS guidance to state that birth partners were permitted on maternity wards.

My ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders in a way that increases engagement and action is my superpower. I am adept at speaking on a stage in front of thousands of people at a corporate conference or a protest rally. I have done hundreds of TV and radio interviews, as well as leading on PTS social media which attracted a following of over 400k. I have given evidence in Parliament numerous times and been asked to deliver talks to the House of Lords. I have advised the Quebec Government and the office of the US president on childcare campaigning. I was even lucky enough to have dinner with Hilary Clinton and Julia Gillard earlier in the year to discuss the work we are doing.
